BRUNSWICK, Maine — NESCAC powerhouse Bowdoin College scored seven goals in the opening 25 minutes and 11 seconds to top the University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team on Tuesday evening, 7-0, in a non-conference battle.
The Records
The Beavers entered play with a 1-1 record, having picked up a win over UMA a week ago before falling to Salem State this past weekend. The Polar Bears entered play searching for their first win of the season, sitting at 0-1-1.
How It Happened
Cadence Lee staked the hosts to an early lead, finding the back of the net just 36 seconds into the game. Mary Rainey was awarded the assist on Lee's opening-minute tally.
Laila Nickelson doubled their lead at the 12:07 mark, scoring the first of three goals in a four-minute and 17-second span to open up a 4-0 lead. Kyra Hacker and Kayley Huleatt each tallied goals during this stretch for the Polar Bears.
A goal from Rylie McLaren at the 21:36 mark began another three-goal stretch, this time in a three-minute and 35-second span, to help push the lead to 7-0 in the opening 25:11 of game time. Dani Musry and Sofi Rua each tallied unassisted markers during this stretch for Bowdoin.
Following Rua's goal, the Beavers buckled down defensively and held the Polar Bears off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game. However, offensively, the Beavers could not get anything going and did not record a shot for the game.
