Kolman’s Early Goal Leads Beavers to Win Over Mariners

FARMINGTON, Maine - Senior forward Caleb Kolman (Bixby, Okla.) scored a goal in the 11th minute of the game that proved to be the difference maker in the Beavers 1-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory at home over the visiting Maine Maritime Academy Mariners on Saturday afternoon.

The Records:

Following today's victory, the Beavers improved to 2-2-1 on the early season with a 1-1 record in NAC play. The Mariners dropped to 2-4-1 with a 1-2 record in NAC play following the loss.

How it Happened:

The Beavers grabbed the momentum early as first-year and leading goal scorer Jack Luciano (Gorham, Maine) rang the crossbar just three minutes and 16 seconds into the game the ball was cleared away as the Beavers were kept off the scoreboard early.

Farmington maintained their pressure and Kolman scored his first goal of the season in the 11th minute off a beautiful feed from Luciano to stake the Beavers to the early advantage.

The early lead for Farmington held up as a majority of the remainder of the game was a possession battle with neither team seemingly able to facilitate too much offensive pressure. The Beavers outshot the Mariners 6-1 in the opening half, but the second half was evenly played with both teams only managing minimal substantive offensive pressure.

In the 2nd half, the Beavers tallied the first two shots of the half but the Mariners quickly flipped the field and handled the play for a good portion of the final 30 minutes of the game. Jackson Leach (Farmingdale, Maine) and the Beavers backline was up to the task however as Farmington held on for the crucial conference victory.

Team Stats:

The Beavers held advantages in shots (8-4) and shots on goal (7-2) while the Mariners held an advantage in corner kicks (4-3).

The Goalkeepers:

Leach made a pair of saves to pick up the 2nd shutout victory for the Beavers this season. Reagan Moynihan made six saves in the losing effort for the Mariners.

UP NEXT

The Beavers travel to Presque Isle on Tuesday afternoon to take on the University of Maine at Presque Isle in another NAC battle scheduled for 1:00 PM.
