Adow’s Hat-Trick Leads Beavers to Conference Victory Over Lesley

FARMINGTON, Maine - Sophomore sensation Mohamed Adow (Auburn, Maine) scored three unanswered goals to propel the Beavers to an important 3-1 victory over the visiting Lesley University Lynx on Friday afternoon at Leib Field.

The Records:

The Beavers exit play winners of three straight, improving to 4-2-1 on the season and 3-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play. The Lynx dropped to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in NAC competition following the loss.

How It Happened:

The Lynx jumped out to an early lead in the 25th minute when Nick Wadleigh headed home a cross from Osmyn Atwood. Wadleigh's goal was the first substantial scoring opportunity of the game for either side.

Farmington kicked into a new gear following Wadleigh's goal, taking control and dominating play for the remainder of the match.

Adow answered Wadleigh's goal with his first of three just ten minutes later. Caleb Kolman (Bixby, Okla.) lofted a ball over the top of the Lynx back line that bounced into the Lesley defensive box. Adow maneuvered around a Lesley defender, stole the ball, and slid a shot into the bottom right corner to equalize the game at one apiece.

Adow looked poised to break the tie in the 56th minute when a cross from Shukri Hassan (Lewiston, Maine) landed perfectly on his head, leaving him uncontested as the Lesley goalkeeper, Josiah Williams, was out of position. Unfortunately, Adow's header went over the crossbar, keeping the game tied.

Adow made up for the missed opportunity by scoring his fifth goal of the season in the 67th minute. After receiving a throw-in, he flicked the ball over his head into the center of the box. A Lesley defender attempted to clear it, but Adow intercepted the ball and fired a left-footed shot into the lower right corner, giving the Beavers their first lead of the game.

In the 81st minute, after a foul outside the penalty area, Adow stepped up to take a free kick from about 25 yards out. He bent a shot around the four-man wall and into the side netting, opening up a two-goal advantage.

The Beavers held the Lynx without a shot attempt in the second half, coasting to victory.

Team Stats:

After holding a 7-3 advantage in shots in the first half, the Beavers outshot Lesley 7-0 in the second half, finishing with a 14-3 advantage overall. They also held an 8-1 edge in shots on goal and a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Goalkeepers:

Sophomore goalkeeper Jackson Leach (Farmingdale, Maine) did not make a save but controlled the box effectively, thwarting several Lesley opportunities with his ability to high-point aerial crosses. Williams made five saves in the loss for the Lynx.

UP NEXT

The Beavers return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Lewiston, Maine, to take on Bates College for a 7:00 PM game.
