Husson Spoils Beavers Senior Day

FARMINGTON, Maine - Husson University topped the Beavers 7-0 in a Central Maine Collegiate Field Hockey Conference game on Saturday afternoon, spoiling Senior Day for Farmington.

Senior Spotlight:

Before the game, Farmington recognized and appreciated the contributions of four seniors competing in their final regular season game at Prescott Field. Allie Bliss (Underhill, Vermont), Hailey Capano (Cornish, Maine), Paris Howes (Jay, Maine), and Emma Willey (Lisbon Falls, Maine) were celebrated for their significant impact on the UMF field hockey program.

The Records:

The Beavers dropped to 0-8 on the season and are now 0-2 against Central Maine Collegiate Field Hockey Conference opponents. The Eagles improved to 5-4-1 with their victory this afternoon.

How It Happened:

Husson came out aggressively, applying substantial pressure in the opening 15 minutes. The Eagles had nine shot attempts in the first quarter, but sophomore goalkeeper Ella Grant (Sturbridge, Mass.) was outstanding, making eight saves to hold the visitors scoreless.

Faith Tillotson finally broke through Grant's defense just minutes into the second quarter, scoring an unassisted goal to make it 1-0.

In the 22nd minute, Hope Bouchard launched a slap shot from the left wing that Grant managed to deflect. Unfortunately for the Beavers, the ball ricocheted right to Kyla Havey, who tapped it into the cage, extending the lead to two goals.

The Eagles tallied a third goal just 76 seconds before halftime when Ella Louder's slap shot from the top of the circle found the net off a penalty corner inserted by Tillotson.

Goals from Maddie Arsenault and Elisa Picariello in the third quarter pushed the Eagles' lead to five after 45 minutes of play.

Maddie Perkins and Tessa Capozzoli scored just two minutes apart in the opening moments of the fourth quarter, extending the Eagles' lead to seven and finishing off the scoring for the afternoon.

The Beavers struggled to generate offensive pressure throughout the game. Their best opportunity came in the second quarter when Bayley Casavant (Corinth, Maine) launched a hard slap shot on goal, but Husson goalkeeper Maria Levesque made a quick kick save to keep the Beavers scoreless.

Team Stats:

Husson maintained steady pressure throughout the game, holding a 30-1 advantage in total shots, a 26-1 advantage in shots on goal, and a 23-1 advantage in penalty corners.

The Goalkeepers:

Grant was exceptional in goal, making a season-high 19 saves for Farmington. Levesque recorded one save to secure the shutout victory.
