Castaldo and Trussell Set Program Records at Bates Invitational

LEWISTON, Maine - University of Maine at Farmington senior Justin Castaldo (Scarborough, Maine) set the 3,000 meter program record and junior Nate Trussell (Berwick, Maine) set the 60 meter hurdle program record in the Beavers' fifth place finish at the Bates Invitational Saturday afternoon. As a team, the Beavers amassed 38 points. The University of New Hampshire topped the field totaling 224 points.

Top Performances:

Castaldo set the program record in the 3,000 meters with an impressive time of 8:56.53. Castaldo finished 8th overall in the event scoring one point for the Beavers in the highly competitive field. 

Trussell broke the program record in the 60 meter hurdles during his preliminary heat racing to a time of 8.57 seconds. Trussell was seeded second after the preliminary heat phase but did not compete in the finals. Trussell also added a seventh place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 56.99 seconds notching the Beavers two points in the process.

Seamus Reeve (Kittery, Maine) scored four points in a fifth place effort in the 60 meters by finishing with a time of 7.36 seconds. Reeve advanced to the finals by placing fifth in the preliminaries with a time of 7.39 seconds. He added a ninth place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 23.89 seconds.

Joe Burgess (Gray, Maine) finished with a time of 1:41.56 in the 600 meters placing eighth for the Beavers which was good for one point.

Ethan Linscott (Lakeville, Maine) picked up four points after placing fifth in the 1,000 meters posting a time of 2:47.14.

James Riley (Shrewsbury, Mass.) recorded a third place finish in the 5,000 meters scoring six points with a time of 16:25.58.

In the 4x400 meter relay, Owen Booker (Lisbon, Maine), Castaldo, Linscott, and Trussell finished with a time of 3:51.12 to place third and pick up six points for the Beavers.

Logan Burns (Islesboro, Maine) won the long jump topping the field with a jump of 6.54 meters on his second attempt. By winning the event, Burns scored 10 points for the Beavers.

Alex Crews (Winslow, Maine) notched three points in a sixth place finish in the shotput with a distance of 13.50 meters in his fourth attempt.

The Beavers are back in action on January 29th when they travel to Waterville, Maine for the Colby College Mini Meet.
