BOSTON, Mass. – University of Maine at Farmington first-year Owen Booker (Lisbon, Maine) qualified for the New England Championships in the long jump after his farthest attempt surpassed the NCAA Division III standard of 6.55 meters. Booker's best jump was measured at 6.66 meters, securing his spot in the New England Championships. Ten other Beavers competed at the Harvard Invitational, each performing well against high-level competition.
Booker placed fifth overall in the long jump and second in the triple jump. In the long jump, Booker's first two attempts were measured at 6.59 meters, earning his qualification for the New England Championships early. He then surpassed his own mark with a 6.66-meter jump in his final attempt. In the triple jump, Booker's first jump measured 13.22 meters, contributing to his second-place finish.
Nate Trussell (Berwick, Maine) had an impressive performance, breaking his own school record for the fourth time this season in the 60-meter hurdles. Trussell clocked a time of 8.54 seconds in the preliminary heat to qualify for the finals. He finished seventh in the finals with a time of 10.57 seconds. Trussell also added a fifth-place finish in the 200 meters, running a time of 23.20 seconds. Senior Seamus Reeve (Kittery, Maine) placed eighth overall in the 200 meters with a time of 24.05 seconds.
In the mile, senior standout Justin Castaldo (Scarborough, Maine) broke the school record with an impressive time of 4:22.00. This performance earned him third place overall in the event, just 0.59 seconds behind the first-place finisher.
Ben Vachon (Portland, Maine) and Logan Burns (Islesboro, Maine) competed alongside Booker in the long jump, with Vachon also competing in the triple jump. Vachon placed ninth in the long jump with a best mark of 6.46 meters. Burns' best jump was measured at 6.42 meters, placing him tenth. Vachon also finished fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 12.70 meters.
Sophomore Alex Crews (Winslow, Maine) placed sixth in the shot put with a best throw of 13.24 meters.
