Martinez Nocito Places 9th to Lead Beavers at James Earley Invitational

WESTFIELD, Massachusetts – Reigning North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Runner of the Week Lina Martinez Nocito (Mt. Vernon, Maine) continued her brilliant season on Saturday, racing to a ninth-place finish at the James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State University. As a team, the Beavers placed 11th out of 13.

Williams College topped the field and was led by a trio of first-years who all finished inside the top four.

Beaver Runners:

Martinez Nocito, who has earned NAC Runner of the Week honors three times this season, was once again phenomenal en route to her ninth-place finish. She completed the 5K race in 19:07.6, averaging 6:09.3 per mile. The time moves Martinez Nocito into second place all-time at UMaine-Farmington in a 5K race.

Senior Eve Poteet (Fair Hill, Md.) was the second Beaver across the finish line, placing 51st overall with a time of 20:54.9. Poteet averaged 6:43.9 per mile for the race.

First-year Kaylee Johnston (Bangor, Maine) turned in a strong performance for the Beavers, finishing the 5K in 22:27.9 to place 84th overall, averaging 7:13.8 per mile.

First-year Loralie Grady (Windsor, Maine) and junior Abby MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) were the fourth and fifth
Beavers to cross the finish line, finishing just 12 seconds apart. Grady placed 107th in 23:22.7, while MacDonald finished 111th in 23:34.7 in the competitive 167-runner field.

Annie Spurr (Lewiston, Maine), Monica Lewis (Windham, Maine), Hannah Perkins (Livermore Falls, Maine), and Alayna Marchessault (Bangor, Maine) also competed for the Beavers:
  • Spurr – 122nd | 24:26.3
  • Lewis – 137th | 25:39.4
  • Perkins – 147th | 26:34.0
  • Marchessault – 152nd | 27:55.9

Today marked the final regular-season event for the Beavers, who will gear up for the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship in Bangor, Maine, on November 1.
