Brown’s Hat Trick Leads Husson Past Farmington

Written by: Aaron Goschke '25

BANGOR, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team dropped an 8-0 decision to Husson University in the Central Maine Collegiate Field Hockey Conference (CMCFHC) play on Saturday afternoon at John W. Winkin Sports Complex. The Eagles built an early lead behind a first-quarter hat trick from Lauryn Brown and never looked back en route to the win.

The Records:

With the setback, Farmington moves to 3-10 overall, while Husson improves to 6-6 overall.

How It Happened:

Husson wasted no time setting the tone, striking for four goals in a dominant opening quarter. Brown put the Eagles on the board in the sixth minute, finishing a pass from Maddie Perkins to make it 1-0. Just over a minute later, Kyla Havey redirected a cross from Ruby Kitchin inside the far post to double the lead. Brown then took control, adding two more goals before the end of the period — scoring unassisted in the 10th minute and completing the first-quarter hat trick in the 12th minute off a setup from Faith Tillotson — giving Husson a commanding 4-0 advantage after the opening frame.

Husson tacked on another goal midway through the second period when Averi Baker found the back of the cage off a pass from Perkins, extending the advantage to 5-0 at halftime.

The Eagles continued to roll in the third quarter, adding two more tallies — one from Tillotson in the 43rd minute and another from Perkins just seconds before the horn, assisted by Tessa Capozzoli — to make it 7-0.

Husson capped the scoring in the 57th minute when Capozzoli converted on a feed from Baker, sealing the 8-0 final.

Farmington's best scoring chance came early in the third quarter when Izzy Derosby (Waterville, Maine) sent a shot toward goal off a penalty corner, but it was blocked by the Husson defense.
