Women’s Cross Country Takes 1st In Pre-Championship Poll

WATERVILLE, Maine The University of Maine at Farmington women's cross country team has been picked to finish first overall at this weekend's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship, as voted on by the conference's coaching staff.

Meet Overview and History

This year's NAC Championship is hosted by Husson University at Saxl Park and will feature four teams: Farmington, Husson, Thomas College, and the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Last season's event included six teams, with SUNY Cobleskill, SUNY Delhi, and Lesley University also competing. Cobleskill and Delhi have since departed the conference, while the Lynx do not have enough runners this season to qualify as a team.

The meet will be scored based on the top-five finishers from each team, with individual placements converted into point totals. Each team's points will be added to determine the overall standings and crown a conference champion.

At last season's championship, Farmington finished in second place, with two runners placing inside the top seven.

Poll Results

Season at a Glance and Beaver Runners

Farmington has enjoyed a strong season and will look to capture the conference title after placing second last year and third the year before. The Beavers opened the 2025 season with a first-place finish at the Beavers Invitational, where the top seven finishers were all Farmington athletes. They followed that with another first-place finish at the NAC Preview Meet on October 4, with their top-five runners all placing inside the top seven.

The Beavers have been led by junior Lina Martinez Nocito (Mt. Vernon, Maine), who has been dominant through four races this fall. Martinez Nocito has been named NAC Runner of the Week three times this season and earned a pair of individual first-place finishes. She also ranks second in program history for the 5K, recording a time of 19:07.60 at the James Earley Invitational.

Farmington's depth has grown this season, with 11 runners on the roster. Senior Eve Poteet (Fair Hill, Md.), a NAC Second Team All-Conference selection last year, is poised to make another strong showing at this weekend's championship.

First-years Dellaney Flower (Farmington, Conn.) and Kaylee Johnston (Bangor, Maine) have made immediate impacts, with Flower earning NAC Rookie of the Week honors twice and Johnston receiving the recognition once. Additionally, first-years Abigail Dumont (Bangor, Maine) and Loralie Grady (Windsor, Maine), along with junior Abby MacDonald, will all look to push for top-five finishes for the Beavers.
