Grant Named Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year, Freeman and Kendall Named to All-Conference Team

FARMINGTON, Maine – The Central Maine Collegiate Field Hockey Conference (CMCFHC) announced the major award recipients as well as the All-Tournament Team selections from the 2025 season and postseason, and three University of Maine at Farmington field hockey players were honored. Senior goalkeeper Ella Grant (Sturbridge, Mass.) was named the Co-Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Autumn Freeman (Byron, Maine) and Elizabeth Kendall (Guilford, Maine) each received First Team All-Conference and All-Tournament Team honors.

The Central Maine Collegiate Field Hockey Conference consists of three institutions: the University of Maine at Farmington, Husson University, and Thomas College. The 2025 season marks the second year of the conference's existence, and for the second straight season, Husson claimed the conference championship after defeating Thomas, 3-2, in overtime. Farmington earned the No. 3 seed in this year's CMCFHC Tournament, falling on the road to Thomas, 7-0.

Grant's selection as Co-Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year marks the second consecutive season that a Beaver has earned the award, joining Allie Bliss '25, who was recognized last year. Grant will graduate in spring 2026, completing her Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in Science in just three years. During her time at Farmington, she has made the most of both her academic and community opportunities. She participated in a two-week research trip to the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory, where she dissected and studied fruit fly anatomy. Last year, Grant completed a research project for Aquatic Bio on macroinvertebrate populations in the Temple Stream outside Farmington. More recently, her research has focused on bacterial populations as temperatures decrease in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and the resulting impacts on metabolic and genetic processes. Grant has also given back to the University, serving as a course and lab tutor for multiple classes and as the Team Leader for Course-Based Tutoring and the Gateways to Success Tutoring Program. Additionally, she has been an active member of UMF's Morgan's Message chapter, working to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health among student-athletes.

On the field, Grant has been stellar as the Beavers' starting goalkeeper for the past three seasons. This year, she made 15 appearances, including 14 starts, recording 89 saves while posting a 5.04 goals-against average and a .586 save percentage.

Kendall has been a standout defender for the Beavers for the past three years. Like Grant, she will graduate in the spring after completing her degree in just three years. Kendall earned CMCFHC All-Conference honors for the second consecutive season and was a force on the backline throughout the year. She finished the season with one goal and two assists while leading the team with four defensive saves—three of which came during conference play. Kendall closed the regular season in emphatic fashion, scoring a goal, adding an assist, and recording a career-high two defensive saves in a tough road loss to Thomas. She was also named to the conference's All-Tournament Team.

Freeman was, in many ways, the backbone of the Beavers during the 2025 season. Her presence on the field did not always appear on the stat sheet, but was consistently felt by her teammates and opponents alike. Freeman served as the team's vocal and emotional leader, contributing significantly in all areas of play. Offensively, she recorded two goals and two assists, scoring against Thomas and Elms during the regular season. Defensively, she played a key role on penalty corners, kept the backline organized, and added one defensive save. Her versatility stood out all season long as she routinely helped transition Farmington from defense to attack. Freeman also earned All-Tournament Team honors.

For the Beavers, junior defender Lindsay Boisvert (Westbrook, Maine) was named to the Sportsmanship Team. Boisvert appeared in all 17 games, making 16 starts.
