CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington women's alpine team had a strong day on the hill, earning fifth place in today's USCSA Eastern Regional Championship Giant Slalom event at Sugarloaf.
Beaver Skiers:
Only five skiers from each competing team are eligible to race in the Regional Championship. The five skiers the Beavers sent to the hill were Elanore Robb (Woodbury, Minn.), Hokulani Caroselli (Temple, Maine), Rosie St. Cyr (Pownal, Maine), Grace Mahmood (Oxford, Conn.), and Fallon Smith (Nelson, N.H.).
Robb led the way for the Beavers on the course on Saturday. She finished 13th overall, posting a time of 1:31.38. Robb's two runs were clocked at 44.43 seconds and 46.95 seconds, respectively. She was in 10th place after her first run.
Mahmood, Caroselli, and St. Cyr finished with times just 0.92 seconds apart, placing 27th, 29th, and 30th, respectively.
Mahmood placed 27th, finishing her two runs with a total time of 1:35.02. Mahmood's first run was 47.17 seconds, and her second run was 47.85 seconds.
Caroselli posted a two-run time of 1:35.06 for 29th place. Caroselli's runs were clocked at 47.10 seconds and 48.76 seconds.
With only three skiers contributing to the team's overall time, Robb, Mahmood, and Caroselli combined for a total time of 4:42.26 in their fifth-place effort.
St. Cyr, who did not contribute to the team's score, finished her two runs in 47.12 seconds and 48.82 seconds for a total time of 1:35.94.
Smith placed 49th overall, posting a two-run time of 1:48.84. Smith's runs were clocked at 55.03 seconds and 53.81 seconds.

The Beavers will look to continue the momentum tomorrow in the slalom portion of the Regional Championship.
