BOSTON, Massachusetts – University of Maine at Farmington junior Nate Trussell (Berwick, Maine) became just the second athlete in program history to score a point at the NCAA New England Championships, earning two points in the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday.
On Friday, Trussell posted a massive program-record time of 8.41 seconds to qualify for the finals, which took place on Saturday. In the finals, Trussell finished with a time of 8.68 seconds, placing seventh overall in the event and joining Alixx Canwell '24 as the only Beavers to score points at the Regional Championships.
In the mile, senior Justinn Castaldo (Scarborough, Maine) finished with a time of 4:30.81, placing 18th overall in a highly competitive field.
Senior Ben Vachon (Portland, Maine) was the only other Beaver to compete in an individual event on Saturday. Vachon finished 21st overall in the triple jump, with his longest attempt measured at 12.64 meters.
Logan Burns (Islesboro, Maine), Castaldo, Ethan Linscott (Lakeville, Maine), and Vachon made up the team that competed in the 4x400-meter relay. The group finished in 23rd place with a time of 3:34.33.
Saturday's event wrapped up the 2024-25 indoor track and field season for the Beavers. Farmington will have nearly a month off before returning to action on March 29th, when they kick off their outdoor season at Southern New Hampshire University.
