Billings Grabs a Pair of 3rd Place Finishes in Snowboard Slalom and Giant Slalom Championships

BEND, Oregon - Two days after repeating as the boardercross National Champion, University of Maine at Farmington junior Caelan Billings (Sullivan, Maine) grabbed a pair of third place finishes in the Giant Slalom and Slalom National Championships.

Originally, today was scheduled to be the Slalom National Championship with the Giant Slalom National Championship scheduled to take place on Saturday. But due to the possibility of weather issues in the next couple days in Bend, the USCSA made the decision to move the Giant Slalom National Championship up to today.

Billings' day began with the Giant Slalom event. Billings had a very strong first run, posting a time of 45.32 seconds, the second quickest run of any racer on the course. In his second run, Billings finished with a time of 46.73 seconds. Andrew Beery of the University of Wisconsin Madison finished his second run in 44.67 seconds to move in front of Billings for the silver medal. Billings settled for the bronze, claiming his second spot on the podium this week.

Luke Koch of Lees McRae College earned the top-spot in Giant Slalom.

In slalom, Billings was the fastest racer on the course during the first run, finishing with a time of 35.64 seconds, eight hundredths of a second quicker than Beery. Billings posted a time of 37.32 seconds in his second run to finish with a total time of 1:12.96. Beery finished in the top-spot with a time of 1:11.03. Koch grabbed silver with a time of 1:12.03. Billings finished with the bronze medal, his second on the day.

UP NEXT

Billings and the rest of the Farmington snowboarders will return to the mountain on Friday for the Slopestyle National Championship.
