Men’s Freeski Claim 2nd Place in Rail Jam National Championship

BEND, Oregon - The University of Maine at Farmington men's freeski team claimed second place overall in the Rail Jam National Championship event that took place on Wednesday, March 12th.

The Rail Jam was broken up into two heats of 20 athletes. The athletes are each given a run that is scored by a panel of judges. The top-15 scores from the two heats then advanced into the finals heat.

All five of the Farmington freeski athletes advanced into the finals after faring quite well among the panel of judges.

In the finals, reigning Rail Jam National Champion Zach Chaisson (Scarborough, Maine) once again executed a high-level of difficulty on several tricks, finishing in fifth place.

First-year Ben Taylor (Scarborough, Maine) also stood out, earning eighth place for the Beavers.

Maxwell Hamilton (Brunswick, Maine), Arden Weaver (Surry, Maine), and Dominique Richard (Lewiston, Maine) finished 11th, 13th, and 14th respectively in the event.

The event takes the top-three finishers from each team to calculate the teams overall score. Chaisson, Taylor, and Hamilton combined to total 24 place points in their second place effort.

Westminster University easily walked away with the National Championship title as the top-four scorers were all Griffins.
