USCSA National Championship Total Recap

FARMINGTON, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington snowsports program returned to the East Coast late Sunday evening after a successful week at Mount Bachelor in Bend, Oregon, for the USCSA National Championships. The event marked the conclusion of the 2025 season—a season for the record books.

USCSA National Championship Highlights

The snowsports team captured three individual national championships. First-year women's freeski athlete Natalee McKenzie (Kingfield, Maine) won two titles, claiming first place in both the rail jam and slopestyle events. Junior men's snowboarding athlete Caelan Billings (Sullivan, Maine) successfully defended his title as the boardercross national champion.

At Saturday evening's awards ceremony, the women's alpine and women's Nordic teams combined to place third overall in the race for the President's Award. The President's Award is given to the institution with the highest combined finish across alpine slalom and giant slalom events, as well as Nordic classic and team sprint events. Due to weather conditions, the Nordic team sprint event was canceled this year, leaving the award to be determined by the combined results of slalom, giant slalom, and classic races.

The Beavers return to Maine with an impressive haul of 31 All-American awards and 18 Scholar All-American awards.

Team Placements

Men's Alpine (11th Place)

Originally, the men's alpine National Championship event was scheduled as a three-race competition featuring giant slalom, slalom, and dual slalom. However, due to an impending storm and poor course conditions, the dual slalom event was canceled, leaving only the giant slalom and slalom to determine each institution's overall placement for the week.

Combined, the men's alpine team earned an 11th-place finish after placing 14th in giant slalom and ninth in slalom. The Beavers faced harsh racing conditions during the giant slalom event last Wednesday. Across all competitors, 74 registered DNFs, including three Beavers. Junior Lake Lindelof (Belfast, Maine) and senior Colgan O'Keefe (Westchester, N.Y.) were the only Farmington skiers to complete both runs.

The Beavers had a stronger showing on Thursday in the slalom event, with three skiers finishing inside the top 40. O'Keefe was the fastest Beaver on the course, recording a two-run time of 1:30.72. Sam Roy (Frenchville, Maine) finished less than a tenth of a second behind, posting a time of 1:30.78 for a 26th-place effort. Junior Lance Dolan (Coplin Plantation, Maine) was not far behind, finishing 36th with a combined time of 1:32.85.

After the completion of both races, athletes received a full combined placement. O'Keefe was the highest-ranked Beaver, placing 21st overall with 170.18 race points. Sam Roy was 59th with 1,051.18 race points, Lindelof finished 65th with 1,068.37 race points, Dolan followed in 66th with 1,069.22 race points, and Jacob Roy (Frenchville, Maine) tied for 116th with 1,980 race points.

Women's Alpine (11th Place)

Like the men's alpine team, the women also had their events cut short due to the impending storm and poor course conditions. They, too, were unable to compete in the dual slalom, leaving giant slalom and slalom as the determining races for their overall placement.

In Tuesday's giant slalom race, the women placed 13th with their top three finishers combining for a time of 7:08.96. In Thursday's slalom race, their top three racers combined for a total time of 5:11.13, securing 11th place overall. The Beavers were led by sophomore Elanore Robb (Woodbury, Minn.), junior Hokulani Caroselli (Temple, Maine), and first-year Rosie St. Cyr (Pownal, Maine) in both races.

Robb placed 30th overall in giant slalom, finishing with a two-run time of 2:17.00. She also earned a 33rd-place finish in slalom with a combined time of 1:43.27, finishing 29th overall with 182.89 race points.

Caroselli finished with 242.69 race points, placing 38th overall. She finished 50th in giant slalom with a total time of 2:23.81 and 37th in slalom with a combined time of 1:43.27.

St. Cyr placed 38th in slalom and 60th in giant slalom, finishing 44th overall with 279.15 race points. She completed the slalom race in 1:44.01 and the giant slalom in 2:28.15.

Seniors Grace Mahmood (Oxford, Conn.) and Fallon Smith (Nelson, N.H.) concluded their collegiate careers with 71st and 120th overall placements, respectively. Mahmood finished 69th in giant slalom and 93rd in slalom, while Smith placed 91st in giant slalom before registering a DNF in slalom.

Women's Nordic (9th Place)

As with the alpine teams, the women's Nordic team had their National Championship event shortened due to weather conditions. Originally, four races were scheduled: 7.5K Freestyle, Classic Sprints, 15K Classic, and Team Sprint Relays. The Team Sprints, scheduled for Saturday, were ultimately canceled.

Bodach-Turner led the Beavers throughout the week, finishing 20th in the 7.5K Freestyle, 21st in the Classic Sprints, and 12th in the 15K Classic, ranking 16th overall for the week. As a team, the Beavers placed 9th in the 7.5K Freestyle, 11th in the Classic Sprints, and 9th in the 15K Classic. Farmington's three skiers finished with a total time of 1:15.22 in the 7.5K Freestyle, amassed 93 points in the Classic Sprints, and combined for a time of 3:37.32 in the 15K Classic.

Sophomore Cora Treiss (Berlin, N.H.) and first-year Kelsey McCrum (Greenbush, Maine) also had strong performances. Treiss finished 27th overall, placing 24th in the 7.5K Freestyle, 33rd in the Classic Sprints, and 26th in the 15K Classic. McCrum finished 53rd in the 15K, 47th in the Classic Sprints, and 51st in the 7.5K, earning a 50th-place individual combined ranking.

Men's Snowboarding (10th Alpine Combined | 7th Freestyle Combined)

The men's snowboarding National Championships were divided into two separate competitions: the Alpine National Championships and the Freestyle National Championships. The alpine events consisted of slalom, giant slalom, and boardercross, while the freestyle events included rail jam and slopestyle. Billings was the only Beaver to compete in the alpine events. He also participated in the freestyle events alongside Mathieu, Ingalls, Tucker Boudreau, and Jackson Boudreau (Gardiner, Maine).

Billings stood on the podium in all three slalom events, being crowned the boardercross national champion and earning third place in both the slalom and giant slalom events. In total, Billings finished second overall in the alpine combined rankings. He completed his two slalom runs in 1:12.96 and finished with a two-run time of 1:32.05 in the giant slalom.

Since Billings was the only athlete from the Beavers who competed in these events, the team earned 12th place in boardercross, 11th place in giant slalom, and 10th place in slalom.

Mathieu led the Beavers in both freestyle events, earning second place in the rail jam with a score of 93 in the finals, and 8th place overall in the slopestyle, with his best score being a 55.67.

Ingalls put together a solid run, advancing to the finals of the rail jam and earning 7th place overall with a score of 85. Ingalls also placed 35th overall in the slopestyle.

Billings continued his strong performance in Bend, being one of three scoring Beavers in both the rail jam and slopestyle. Billings scored a 45.33 with his best run in the slopestyle, earning 18th place overall. He also placed 18th in the rail jam, finishing with a score of 64.

Tucker Boudreau was the third Beaver to score in the Slopestyle National Championship, earning 13th place with his best judges' score of 49. He placed 33rd overall in the Rail Jam National Championship.

Jackson Boudreau placed 31st overall in the rail jam and 22nd in the slopestyle.

Farmington placed 2nd overall in the Rail Jam National Championship as a team, earning 27 points. The team also finished second in the Slopestyle National Championship with 39 points.

Women's Snowboarding (10th Place Freestyle)

The women's snowboarding team was composed of Brackett and Avery Ver Wey (Bridgton, Maine). The USCSA Snowboarding National Championship included giant slalom, slalom, boardercross, rail jam, and slopestyle events. Brackett and Ver Wey only competed in the rail jam and slopestyle events.

As a team, they placed 11th overall in the rail jam, with Ver Wey earning 19th place and Brackett close behind in 21st. In the slopestyle event, Brackett earned 9th place with a judges' score of 39.67, while Ver Wey earned 16th place. Together, they finished in 4th place as a team.

For the week, Brackett placed 23rd, while Ver Wey was 25th in the combined standings.

Women's Freeski (5th Place)

The women's freeski team was composed of Andrew and McKenzie. The two had a fantastic week, earning several individual awards on their way to a 5th place finish as a team.

McKenzie was crowned National Champion in both the rail jam and slopestyle events. In doing so, she became the first female freeski athlete in program history to earn National Championship honors. McKenzie finished the finals round with a judges' score of 93 to win the Rail Jam National Championship. She also finished with a judges' score of 91 on her best run in the Slopestyle National Championship, nearly seven points higher than any other skier. In total for the week, she finished in 8th place, in part due to not competing in the skier cross event.

Andrew performed very well, earning 21st place in the rail jam, 7th in skier cross, and 5th in slopestyle. In the rail jam, Andrew finished with a judges' score of 48. She made her way through the skier cross bracket and earned a spot in the Small Final. In the Small Final, she placed 3rd to finish 7th overall for the event. Andrew's best run in slopestyle was scored at 64.33 by the judges.

With the USCSA taking three scorers from each institution to contribute to a team's overall score, the Beavers placed 6th in rail jam, 13th in skier cross, and 3rd in slopestyle.

Men's Freeski (3rd Place)

The men's freeski National Championship event consisted of three events: skier cross, rail jam, and slopestyle. All five Beavers who competed last week in Oregon participated in the rail jam and slopestyle events.

The Beavers placed second in both the Rail Jam and Slopestyle National Championships, earning 24 points in rail jam and 19 points in slopestyle. The Beavers were led in both events by Chaisson, who finished 5th overall in each. Chaisson also finished 7th in the combined scoring, earning All-American honors.

Hamilton had a pair of fantastic performances, finishing 11th overall in rail jam and 6th in slopestyle. Hamilton finished as the 10th-ranked skier for the week.

Weaver was the third skier to contribute a score in the second-place slopestyle finish, placing just behind Hamilton in 8th place with a judges' score of 75.33. Weaver finished 13th in rail jam but did not factor into the team's score. For the week, Weaver ranked 14th in the individual combined standings.

Taylor had a fantastic performance in the rail jam, earning 8th place overall and ranking 2nd out of the five scoring Beavers. Taylor also finished 12th in slopestyle and placed 13th in the combined standings.

Richard placed 22nd overall in the combined standings, earning 14th place in rail jam and 22nd in slopestyle.
