FARMINGTON, Maine – The Maine Men's Basketball Coaches & Writers Association (MMBCWA) recently unveiled its postseason awards, celebrating the achievements of standout collegiate basketball players in the state of Maine. Among the honorees was Zach McLaughlin (Hampden, Maine), a first-year guard from the University of Maine at Farmington, who earned a spot on the MMBCWA All-Rookie Team after an impressive debut season.
McLaughlin's dynamic performance throughout the season has been nothing short of spectacular, highlighting his prowess as both a scorer and an athlete. Known for his ability to create shots and deliver high-flying dunks, the 6-2 guard provided a meaningful scoring punch off the bench for the Beavers this season. His notable achievements included earning the title of MMWBCA Rookie of the Week on January 8th, and twice receiving the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Rookie of the Week honors (January 8th and 21st).
Throughout his inaugural collegiate season, McLaughlin consistently delivered strong performances, scoring in double digits in his first six games and setting a career high with 21 points against the University of Southern Maine on November 20th. Over 24 games, he amassed 289 points—ranking third on his team—along with 46 rebounds, 19 assists, and 18 steals. For the season, McLaughlin finished with averages of; 12.0 points on 45.9% shooting, including 32.3% from three-point range, to go along with 1.9 rebounds, 0.8 assists, and 0.8 steals while averaging 18.4 minutes per game. His crucial role was instrumental in propelling the Beavers into the NAC playoffs, highlighted by his 19-point performance and a game-tying layup that forced overtime against the University of Maine at Presque Isle in the NAC quarterfinal round on February 21st.
McLaughlin joins his teammate, Jason Reynolds (Winslow, Maine) as the most recent Beavers to receive MMBCWA All-Rookie Team honors.
