LaFlamme Qualifies for New Englands at Conn College; Beavers Also Perform Well at Monks Invitational

STANDISH, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington sophomore Andrew LaFlamme (Nashua, N.H.) traveled to Connecticut College on Friday evening as the lone Beaver competing at the Silfen Invitational. LaFlamme performed well, hitting the New England standard in the 10,000 meters to qualify for regionals. The rest of the UMF track and field team competed at the Monks Invitational.

Top Beaver Performances:

LaFlamme completed the 10,000-meter race at Conn College with a personal-best time of 33:36.85, punching his ticket to the New England Championships. LaFlamme placed 27th overall in the event against numerous high-level competitors.

At the Monks Invitational, first-year Alexander Gagnon (Goffstown, N.H.) got things started on a high note, winning the 10,000 meters with a time of 34:06.43—over a minute faster than the second-place finisher.

Senior Connor Freeman (Bath, Maine) put together a strong performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, posting a time of 11:28.52 to place third overall.

Farmington's 4x100-meter relay team—Nate Trussell (Berwick, Maine), Logan Burns (Islesboro, Maine), Seamus Reeve (Kittery, Maine), and Ben Vachon (Portland, Maine)—finished second overall with an impressive time of 43.60 seconds.

Sophomore Ethan Linscott (Lakeville, Maine) placed fourth overall in a competitive 1,500-meter field, running a time of 4:21.10.

Vachon added a pair of top-five finishes, placing third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.24 seconds and fourth in the triple jump with a best attempt of 12.65 meters.

Reeve also had a strong individual showing in addition to his relay performance. He earned top-ten finishes in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and pole vault. Reeve ran 11.87 seconds in a highly competitive 100-meter field, placing tenth. He also clocked in at 23.94 seconds in the 200 meters to place seventh. In the pole vault, he cleared 3.05 meters to take fourth.

Senior Justin Castaldo (Scarborough, Maine) ran the 400 meters in 54.91 seconds, placing seventh overall.

Sophomore Joe Burgess (New Gloucester, Maine) placed tenth in the 800 meters, finishing with a time of 2:19.70.

In the 5,000 meters, Samuel Perkins (Jay, Maine) and Jimmy Reel (Nashua, N.H.) placed third and fourth, respectively. Perkins ran 16:59.15, while Reel finished in 17:43.49.

Sophomore thrower Alex Crews (Winslow, Maine) placed inside the top ten in all three throwing events. He finished second in the shot put (14.21 meters), fifth in the hammer throw (38.89 meters), and seventh in the discus (36.64 meters).

The Beavers return to action next Saturday at the Maine State Championships, hosted by Colby College.
