Men’s Track and Field Battles to 7th Place Finish at Maine State Championships

WATERVILLE, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington men's track and field team fought to a seventh place finish at the Maine State Championships, amassing 39 points across the two-day event. The event for the Beavers was highlighted by the performance of the 4x400 meter relay team that placed third overall and set the program record in the process.

Top Beaver Performances:

The 4x400 meter relay team consisted of first-year Logan Burns (Islesboro, Maine), Ben Vachon (Portland, Maine), Ethan Linscott (Lakeville, Maine), and Justin Castaldo (Scarborough, Maine). The foursome finished with a time of 3:33.85 to break the previous record nearly three tenths of a second.

Individually, Castaldo broke his own program record in the 800 meters. Castaldo finished today's race with a time of 1:57.59, finishing seventh overall to secure two points. Previously, Castaldo's record was 1:58.06.

Sophomore Alex Crews (Winslow, Maine) continued his strong season, breaking the program record in the discus with an attempt measured at 40.58 meters. The previous record was 29.61 meters, set by Alixx Canwell '24. Crews went on to place sixth overall in the event. Crews added a third place finish in the shot put, with his best throw marked at 13.12 meters. 

Vachon cleared the 1.85 meter barrier in the high jump to place second overall in the event, notching eight points for the team. 

Farmington's 4x100 team of Nate Trussell (Berwick, Maine), Burns, Seamus Reeve (Kittery, Maine), and Vachon posted a time of 43.05 seconds, earning fifth place in the event.

Trussell had a pair of individual top-ten finishes, including a fourth place finish in the 110 meter hurdles, and a tenth place finish in the 200 meters. Trussell finished with a time of 15.19 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles and 23.01 seconds in the 200 meters.

Reeve placed tenth overall in the 100 meter dash, posting a time of 11.41 seconds. Reeve, along with first-year Owen Booker (Lisbon, Maine) placed ninth and tenth respectively in the pole vault. Both athletes cleared the 3.20 meter threshold.

Andrew LaFlamme (Nashua, N.H.) and James Riles (Shrewsbury, Mass.) each placed inside the top-ten of the 5,000 meters. LaFlamme finished with a time of 17:27.72 to take seventh. Riley was tenth, finishing in 17:52.38.

Burns added a sixth place finish in the long jump. His best attempt was measured at 6.25 meters, earning three points in the process.

UP NEXT

The Beavers will compete next Saturday for the North Atlantic Conference Championship. The meet is to be hosted at Colby College.
