Bowdoin Starts Early in Non-Conference Victory Over Beavers

Written By: Aaron Goschke '25

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team ran into a high-powered Bowdoin College lineup on Wednesday night, falling 17-0 in a non-conference matchup under the lights at Pickard Field.

The Records:

UMF dropped to 9-22 on the season, while Bowdoin improved to 24-9 overall.

How it Happened:

The Polar Bears wasted no time grabbing momentum, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first and adding four more in the second to jump out to a 7-0 lead. Bowdoin capitalized on a mix of timely hits and aggressive baserunning, to take control early. Chris Dirks delivered the opening blow for the Polar Bears, a two-run single in the bottom of the first. RBI singles from Reuben Siegel and Lukas Tsai helped Bowdoin crack the game open early.

After two scoreless frames from Farmington starter Gabe Philbrick (Florence, Mont.), Bowdoin's offense came alive again, plating three runs in the fifth and seven more in the sixth to break the game open. The Polar Bears tallied nine hits but capitalized on UMF miscues, drawing six walks, getting hit four times, and benefitting from nine passed balls. Of Bowdoin's 17 runs, just seven were earned.

Offensively, Farmington was limited to just two hits—a single from Ryan Sargent (Windham, Maine) in the fourth and a single by Sam Peterson (South Berwick, Maine) in the seventh. Bowdoin used eight different pitchers, combining for a two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and four walks.
