Beavers Drop Both Games to Hot-Hitting Lynx

Written By: Aaron Goschke '25

FARMINGTON, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team dropped both games of Thursday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader against Lesley University at Hippach Field. The Beavers were shut out 15-0 in the opener before falling 9-4 in a more competitive Game 2.

The Records:

Lesley improved to 17-16 overall (11-5 NAC), while UMF slipped to 9-24 (3-11 NAC) on the season.

Game 1: Beavers 0, Lynx 15

Lesley's offense exploded for 23 hits in a one-sided 15-0 victory in the opener. The Lynx scored in six of eight innings with single runs in the second, third, fifth, and sixth innings but put up crooked numbers in the fourth and eighth innings, including a seven-run eighth. Offensively Lesely was led by Kevin Dorsey, who finished 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs. Every Lesley starter recorded at least one hit, and four players had multi-RBI games. James Brandon, Caden Shott, and Keenan Hobart all recorded two RBIs.

UMF starter Maddox Santone (Fairfield, Maine) went four innings in the loss, while Trent Holman (Dixfield, Maine) pitched the final four. Offensively, the Beavers were limited to four hits—two from Tyler Rosa (Morgan Hill, Calif.), who doubled in the second.

Roy Lenhard tossed a complete-game shutout for Lesley, striking out two, not allowing a walk and throwing 96 pitches in the eight-inning performance.

Game 2: Beavers 4, Lynx 9

UMF showed more life in the second game but couldn't overcome defensive struggles, committing six errors that led to four unearned runs in a 9-4 loss. Lesley scored three in the first and built a 5-0 lead after two and half. Colin McCarthy picked up an RBI single and Owen Kalagher delivered a two-run double in the top of the first for the Lynx.

Shott added an RBI double in the second and Colby Jacobs pitched in with an RBI single in the third before the Beavers cut into the deficit with RBI singles from Jameson Bloch (Attleboro, Mass.) and Rosa in the bottom half of the third.

Brandon supplied some insurance in the top of the sixth for the Lynx, delivering a two-run single to score Raymond Morales and Shott.

In the bottom half of the sixth, Paul Vachon (Brookline, N.H.) doubled and Ike Wrigley (Farmington, Maine) followed with a two-run homer, his third of the season, to pull Farmington back within three.

Brandon once again supplied insurance for the Lynx in the top of the seventh, singling home Morales for the second consecutive inning and later scoring on a wild pitch to make it 9-4 and put the game away.

Bloch, Wrigley, and Matt Marquis (Monmouth, Maine) each had two hits for UMF, while Andrew Gryniewicz went the distance for Lesley, allowing four runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and no walks.
