Husson Spoils Beavers’ Senior Day

FARMINGTON, Maine – Husson University pounded out 18 hits, spoiling Senior Day for the University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday afternoon en route to a 17-1 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory. What was originally scheduled to be a doubleheader ended up being just one game due to weather.

Following the game, the University of Maine at Farmington baseball team had the distinct privilege of honoring 14 seniors for the lasting imprint they will leave on the program in the years to come. Will Harriman (Biddeford, Maine), Nate Coombs (Thomaston, Maine), Greyson Bell (Las Vegas, Nev.), Jonny Pruett (Waterford, Maine), Cal Tibbitts (Bath, Maine), Chris Albert (Bradley, Maine), Sam Peterson (South Berwick, Maine), Ryan Sargent (Windham, Maine), Lucas Tuttle (Framingham, Mass.), Sam Wrigley (Farmington, Maine), Logan Holcomb (Hebron, Conn.), Aaron Goschke (Gorham, Maine), TJ Dorn (Westbrook, Maine), and Juan Subervi, along with their families, were recognized.

Records
Following the loss, the Beavers dropped to 9-25 overall with a 3-12 record in NAC play. Husson improved to 20-13 overall and 12-3 in conference play, inching closer to clinching the top seed in the upcoming NAC tournament.

How It Happened
Wrigley got the Senior Day nod on the mound and had his stuff working early. The senior opened the game with two consecutive scoreless innings, striking out one.

The Beavers struck first in the bottom of the second inning. Jameson Bloch (Attleboro, Mass.) led off with a walk, and consecutive singles from Colby Lewis (Blue Hill, Maine) and Peterson loaded the bases with nobody out. Pruett then hit a ball back up the middle, which Husson second baseman Colin Marshall made a beautiful diving stop on before flipping it with his glove to Keegan Cyr at shortstop to start a 6-4-3 double play. Bloch came in to score on the play, but Marshall's glove work stifled what could have been a big inning for the Beavers.

The Eagles' offense came alive in the top of the third, pushing across seven runs to break the game open. Akira Warren delivered an RBI double down the left-field line, and Matt Holmes blasted a three-run home run to help Husson take a 7-1 lead.

Husson went on to score two runs each in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings before tacking on four more in the top of the seventh. Twelve different players recorded an RBI, with Holmes leading the way with three. Tanner Evans and Cam Rendell each added two RBIs. Twelve players also scored at least one run, with Ryne Rametta leading the way by scoring three times.

The Beavers used five different pitchers in the game, including Coombs, who made his collegiate debut on the mound. Farmington managed just four hits against Husson pitchers Connor Abood and Wyatt Stevens. Abood tossed six innings, striking out three while allowing just three hits. Lewis led the Farmington offense with two hits.

Up Next
The Beavers return to action tomorrow afternoon against Husson in a doubleheader. The games were originally scheduled to take place at Hippach Field but have been moved to Husson due to expected field conditions. First pitch of Game One is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
