Beavers Blow By Blazers

CHICOPEE, Massachusetts – The University of Maine at Farmington used a balanced offensive attack to secure its third win of the season, defeating Elms College on Saturday morning in non-conference play.

How it Happened

The Beavers struck quickly, scoring twice in the opening period and never looking back. Senior Bayley Casavant (Corinth, Maine), fresh off her first collegiate goal last weekend, converted a penalty stroke in the 8th minute to put Farmington on the board.

Just two minutes later, sophomore forward Mikayla Wilcox (Farmington, Maine) doubled the lead, firing home her own rebound for her team-leading third goal of the season.

Farmington continued to control possession and pepper the Elms defense with shots, but the score held at 2-0 until the closing moments of the second quarter. With 15 seconds remaining in the half, Zoey Pennell (Saco, Maine) pounced on a loose ball in the circle and slotted a shot past Blazer goalkeeper Kaitlyn Volk to extend the lead to 3-0.

Elms managed its first shot of the game early in the third quarter, but UMF junior goalkeeper Ella Grant (Sturbridge, Mass.) denied Jordyn Rossi's attempt.

Wilcox tallied her second goal of the contest just three and a half minutes later, giving Farmington a 4-0 advantage.

The Beavers kept pressing, and in the final minute of the third quarter, Autumn Freeman (Byron, Maine) netted her first goal of the season off a feed from Gabby Vincentsen (Bristol, Maine).

In the fourth quarter, Pennell and Vincentsen each added unassisted goals just over a minute apart, pushing the lead to 7-0 as Farmington cruised to victory.
