Martinez Nocito Breaks Program Record at Maine State Championship

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Junior Lina Martinez Nocito (Mt. Vernon, Maine) raced to a phenomenal time of 23:13.17 at the Maine State Championship on Saturday, breaking the University of Maine at Farmington program record that had stood since 2017.

As a team, the Beavers placed seventh overall with a combined top-five time of 2:06:56. Host Bowdoin College captured first place, narrowly edging the University of Maine.

Martinez Nocito, who was named North Atlantic Conference Runner of the Week in the opening week of the 2025 season, continued her outstanding start with Saturday's record-setting performance. She bested the previous UMF record of 23:19.0, set by Katie LeBlanc '18 at the University of Southern Maine. Martinez Nocito crossed the finish line 22nd overall while emphatically rewriting the record book.

Senior Eve Poteet (Fair Hill, Md.) was UMF's second finisher, placing 54th in 24:54.1 with an average pace of 6:40.7 per mile.

First-year Kaylee Johnston (Bangor, Maine) placed 67th overall, clocking in at 25:55.0 and averaging 6:57.0 per mile.

First-years Dellaney Flower (Farmington, Conn.) and Abbie Dumont (Windham, Maine) rounded out UMF's scoring five. Flower, the reigning NAC Rookie of the Week, placed 74th in 26:12.4, while Dumont finished 77th in 26:41.6.
