Farmington Scores Four Unanswered, Blow by Thomas

FARMINGTON, MaineAfter conceding a goal in just the third minute of play, the University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team responded with four unanswered goals to secure a 4-1 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over Thomas College on Tuesday afternoon at Leib Field.

The Records:

The win marks the Beavers' third straight, improving them to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in NAC play. Thomas dropped to 3-6-1 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.

How It Happened:

Thomas struck first when Breonna Dufresne collected a loose ball and lofted a pass over the Beavers' backline. Briley Rutledge corralled the pass and fired a shot past the diving effort of senior goalkeeper Paige Gonya (Sabattus, Maine) to give the Terriers an early 1-0 lead.

Farmington immediately shifted the momentum, firing six shots over the next ten minutes. In the 12th minute, Kyri Meak (Winslow, Maine) nearly equalized with a strike off the crossbar.

The Beavers broke through in the 16th minute when crisp one-touch passing from Meak and Emma Dunn (Farmington, Maine) set up Natalie Tracy (Oakland, Maine), who buried a close-range shot inside the near post to tie the game, 1-1.

Just two minutes later, Meak scored her fifth goal of the season, settling a pass from Kiley Meader (Oakland, Maine) and slotting a shot into the lower-left corner to give Farmington a 2-1 lead.

The Beavers extended their advantage in the 40th minute. Off a corner from Grace Dwyer (Manchester, Maine), Peyton Gonya (Sabattus, Maine) outjumped the defense and redirected a header off the right post and into the net for her second goal of the season, sending Farmington into halftime up 3-1.

The Beavers added an insurance goal in the 54th minute when Tracy took a through ball from Emma Casavant (Farmington, Maine), broke free behind the Terrier defense, and slotted a left-footed shot into the lower-right corner for her second goal of the match and a 4-1 lead.

Farmington controlled the second half, allowing just one shot as they cruised to victory.
