Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Beavers Dispatch Delhi for 6th Straight Win

DELHI, New York – The University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team ran away from SUNY Delhi on Friday evening, topping the Broncos 74-44 to earn their sixth straight victory.

The Records:

The win moves the Beavers to 11-3 overall and 9-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action. The Broncos fell to 3-14 overall with a 2-8 record in NAC play following the loss.

How it Happened:

The first quarter featured back-and-forth action, as the two teams combined for five lead changes with neither side leading by more than three points. Trailing 12-9, the Beavers scored five straight points to close the quarter and take a 14-12 lead into the second.

Farmington's run stretched into the opening minutes of the second quarter, as the Beavers scored three straight layups on their first three possessions to open up an eight-point lead. Lilly Gray (Benton, Maine) sparked the run that spanned the end of the first and beginning of the second quarters, accounting for nine points in four minutes and 19 seconds of game time.

After Delhi got consecutive buckets from Mya Aiken and Alani Brock to make it a 24-18 game with 5:42 remaining in the opening half, the Beaver defense buckled down and did not allow a point for the remainder of the second quarter. Farmington closed the half on an 11-0 run to take a 17-point advantage into the locker room.

Farmington continued to pull away in the third quarter. Audrey Mackie (South Thomaston, Maine) hit a pair of three-pointers, Jaydn Pingree (Jay, Maine) converted an and-one opportunity, and Jessica Dow (Saco, Maine) added a pair of easy buckets as the Beavers built a 24-point lead midway through the quarter.

Aiken hit a three and added a layup as part of a 7-2 run to make it a 52-33 game in the final minute of the third quarter, but that was as close as the Broncos would get.

Gray went to work in the fourth quarter, tallying 10 points as the Beavers cruised to their sixth win in as many games. Ella Rice (Winthrop, Maine) provided a boost off the bench as well, scoring six points of her own. Gray and Rice combined to score 16 of the team's 20 fourth-quarter points to put the game out of reach.
