LEWISTON, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington men's track and field team received contributions up and down the roster on Saturday en route to a fifth-place finish at the Bates Invitational. The meet marked the Beavers' first competition in a month and their first of the 2026 calendar year.
Bates College earned first place with 270.5 points, doubling up the University of Southern Maine, which finished second.
Top Beaver Performances
Sophomore Logan Burns (Islesboro, Maine) nearly won the long jump but had to settle for second place, as his top attempt came just three-quarters of an inch short of first. Burns' best jump measured 6.32 meters, earning him eight points.
First-year Chase Nixon (Milton, Mass.) had a strong day, scoring points in a pair of events. Nixon finished fifth overall in the 60-meter hurdles and sixth in the long jump. He entered the finals of the hurdles ranked eighth after clocking an 11.37 in the preliminaries, then dropped more than two seconds in the finals to finish in 9.24 seconds. In the long jump, Nixon recorded a best attempt of 5.71 meters to earn three individual points.
Sophomore Owen Booker (Lisbon, Maine) also scored in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing seventh overall. Booker added an eighth-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.62 meters.
Junior Alex Crews (Winslow, Maine) delivered a strong effort in the shot put, placing third overall. Crews' best throw measured 13.93 meters, earning six points for the Beavers.
The Beavers turned in a pair of standout performances in the 1,000 meters, as junior Ethan Linscott (Lakeville, Maine) and first-year Hans Bakke (York, Maine) combined to score 11 points. Linscott finished third with a time of 2:50.33, while Bakke followed closely behind in fourth at 2:59.80.
First-year Jordan Castonguay (Sabattus, Maine) and junior Joseph Burgess (Gray, Maine) each scored four points while competing in both the 400-meter and 800-meter races. Castonguay placed sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.59 and eighth in the 800 meters at 2:25.09. Burgess finished seventh in both events, posting times of 1:01.93 in the 400 meters and 2:22.05 in the 800 meters.
Sophomore Alexander Gagnon (Goffstown, N.H.) delivered a strong performance in the 3,000 meters, finishing just 10 seconds out of first place in fifth. Gagnon posted a time of 9:15.78 and earned four points.
First-year Lucas Witkowski (Cromwell, Conn.) recorded a sixth-place finish in the 600 meters, crossing the line in 1:29.43 to earn three points.
Junior Andrew LaFlamme (Nashua, N.H.) added another sixth-place finish, scoring three points in the mile with a time of 4:35.41.
