HUNTINGTON, Vermont – The University of Maine at Farmington women's nordic team had a strong weekend competing in the UVM Invitational at the Sleepy Hollow Ski and Bike Center. On Saturday, the Beavers earned a third-place finish as their top three skiers combined for 33 place points in the skiathlon event. On Sunday, Farmington's top group placed eighth overall in the team sprint event and finished second among USCSA competitors.
Saturday Highlights:
Saturday's event was a skiathlon that featured two laps of classic-style racing on a 2.5-kilometer course, followed by athletes changing skis and poles to complete two laps of freestyle on the same course.
Farmington was led by senior Ayla Bodach-Turner (East Montpelier, Vt.), who placed fourth overall and third among USCSA competitors. Bodach-Turner completed the classic portion of the race in 20:07.3 and the freestyle portion in 17:27.1, finishing with a total time of 37:34.5.
Junior Cora Treiss (Berlin, N.H.) earned a 22nd-place finish overall and placed ninth among USCSA competitors. Treiss completed the skiathlon in 42:05.9, with a classic time of 22:58.7 and a freestyle time of 19:31.9.
Sophomore Kelsey McCrum (Greenbush, Maine) crossed the finish line in 52:31.3 to place 68th overall and 21st among USCSA competitors. McCrum posted times of 27:35.9 in the classic and 24:55.3 in the freestyle.
Sunday Highlights:
Sunday's event was a team sprint consisting of three skiers racing three separate legs each, for a total of nine legs to determine a team's final time. Bodach-Turner, Treiss, and McCrum comprised the Beavers' 'A' team.
Treiss skied the opening leg for Farmington, followed by McCrum and then Bodach-Turner, with the trio maintaining that order for all three rotations. The Beavers finished with a total time of 52:13.5, placing eighth overall and second among USCSA competitors. Paul Smith's College's 'A' team led the field with a winning time of 46:42.2.

The Beavers will return to Vermont next weekend, traveling to the Rikert Outdoor Center to compete in the Middlebury Invitational.
