WATERVILLE, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington men's track and field team competed at the Colby College Mini Meet on Friday evening in Waterville. The event was a non-team scoring meet that consisted of just nine events.
Top Beavers Performances:
First-year Jake Lepper (Blue Hill, Maine) competed in the 60-meter run and finished with a strong time of 7.87 seconds to place fifth overall in the event out of ten racers. Lepper also ran the 200 meters and placed second overall, finishing the race in 25.80 seconds.
Junior Joseph Burgess (Gray, Maine) also had a fifth-place finish, doing so in the 1,000 meters. Burgess finished with a time of 3:00.0 in his fifth-place effort.
Sophomore Samuel Perkins (Jay, Maine) finished inside the top ten in the 3,000 meters, earning an eighth-place finish with a strong time of 9:37.23.
In the 60-meter hurdles, first-year Chase Nixon (Milton, Mass.) and sophomore Owen Booker (Lisbon, Maine) finished first and second, respectively. Nixon narrowly beat out Booker, posting a time of 9.41 seconds, while Booker finished in 9.49 seconds.
Nixon added a second first-place finish, doing so in the high jump. Nixon cleared the 1.68-meter mark in his winning effort. Sophomore Logan Burns (Islesboro, Maine) finished second in the event, clearing the 1.53-meter bar.
The Beavers had three throwers finish inside the top six of the weight throw. First-year Noel Matista (Danbury, Conn.) placed second, junior Alex Crews (Winslow, Maine) was third, and sophomore James Fenton (Portland, Maine) took sixth. Matista's best throw measured 12.98 meters, Crews' measured 11.67 meters, and Fenton's measured 9.87 meters.
