BANGOR, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team was unable to get anything to fall all evening long, shooting just 20.0% (12-for-60) from the floor in a 52-38 road loss against Husson University.
The Records:
Farmington dropped to 12-5 overall, as the loss snapped an eight-game North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win streak and moved the Beavers to 10-2 in conference play. Husson improved to 11-7 overall with the victory and is now 10-2 in NAC action.
How it Happened:
While the Beavers struggled from the field to begin the first quarter, four different Husson players got into the scorebook, including a deep three from Lilly Roy, as the Eagles mounted a 9-4 lead after five minutes and 15 seconds of action.
Farmington settled in, however, with buckets from Jaydn Pingree (Jay, Maine), Lilly Gray (Benton, Maine), and Jessica Dow (Saco, Maine) to pull back within one at 11-10.
Husson took a 14-10 lead into the second quarter and then got back-to-back hoops from Aubrey Kachnovich to quickly extend the lead to eight in the opening moments of the quarter.
After shooting 4-of-12 from the field in the opening quarter, Farmington's shooting woes continued in the second quarter, as Husson was able to push its lead to as much as 12 in the final minute. Senior guard Grace Dwyer (Manchester, Maine) connected on a three from the left wing to make it a 29-20 game heading into halftime, hoping to provide a momentum boost moving into the third quarter.
Farmington was unable to cut into the deficit through the first seven-and-a-half minutes of the third quarter, continuing to trail by nine after a pair of Dwyer free throws made it a 38-29 game.
Husson closed the third quarter on an 8-0 spurt, led by a pair of Sophia Carnes threes, to take a 46-29 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Farmington continued to struggle offensively in the fourth quarter, shooting 3-of-15 in the final ten minutes. The Beavers cut the deficit to 14, but that was as close as they would come as Husson clinched the victory and avenged its loss on December 14 in Farmington.
