Bates Pulls Away in Second Half, Defeat Farmington

LEWISTON, Maine — The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team fell to Bates College, 8-0, in non-conference action on Monday evening at the Russell Street Track and Field. Bates opened the scoring early with two goals in the first 12 minutes of play before adding six goals in the second half to run away with the victory.

The Records

Farmington moved to 0-11-2 overall following the loss, while Bates improved to 6-4-1 on the season.

How it Happened

Bates jumped out to an early lead in the seventh minute when Olivia Becker found the back of the net off an assist from Isabelle Bernal to give the Bobcats a 1-0 advantage. Becker struck again just five minutes later, an unassisted goal to push the Bobcats' lead to 2-0 just 12 minutes into the game.

Farmington goalkeeper Roo Sawyer (Londonderry, N.H.) was put to the test early and often, turning away seven shots in the opening 45 minutes of action to keep the Beavers within striking distance. Farmington struggled to get much going in terms of offense throughout the game. Miah Coffin (Otis, Maine) placed the Beavers lone shot on goal in the 16th minute that was turned aside by Bates netminder Sydney Litney.

Following halftime, the Bobcats controlled the play and quickly extended their lead in the 48th minute when Nicole Tandetnitskiy scored off a through ball from Kira Nosse to make it 3-0. Bates continued its attack as Aurora Rella-Neill scored off an assist from Ruby Hill five minutes later to push the margin to 4-0.

Whitney Ladich then sparked a rapid offensive stretch for the Bobcats, recording a second-half hat trick. Ladich scored her first goal in the 61st minute off a feed from Clara Oldenburg, added her second in the 68th minute off an assist from Hill, and capped her hat trick in the 70th minute with another assist from Oldenburg to widen the advantage to 7-0.

Bernal capped the scoring in the 82nd minute, finishing a pass from Rella-Neill to bring the final score to 8-0.

Sawyer was brilliant for Farmington, turning aside 13 shots in the second half.
