PAUL SMITHS, New York – Over the weekend, the University of Maine at Farmington women's Nordic team competed in the Paul Smith's Invitational and came home with two sixth-place finishes in the events that took place on Saturday, February 7, and Sunday, February 8.
Saturday Highlights:
Saturday's event was delayed for an extended period due to freezing temperatures that fell below the minimum required to host a race. As a result of the delay, the race originally scheduled as a 15K was shortened to a 7.5K.
Farmington was led by senior Ayla Bodach-Turner (East Montpelier, Vt.), who placed second overall in the event, finishing just 8.40 seconds out of first place. Bodach-Turner completed the 7.5K course in 26:16.8.
The second Beaver across the finish line was junior Cora Treiss (Berlin, N.H.), who posted a time of 33:29.2 en route to a 34th-place finish.
The third Beaver to finish—and the final athlete who contributed to the team's overall score—was sophomore Kelsey McCrum (Greenbush, Maine). McCrum placed 46th overall in the 65-skier field, finishing in 36:56.1.
First-year Abbie Dumont (Windham, Maine) also competed on Saturday for Farmington, posting a time of 41:52.7 and placing 55th overall.
Sunday Highlights:
Sunday's event was another 7.5K race, this one in the classic discipline. Once again, the Beavers were led by the smooth-skiing Bodach-Turner, who added a third-place, bronze-medal finish to her standout weekend. Bodach-Turner completed the race in 23:12.0, just seven and a half seconds out of second place.
Similar to Saturday's race, Treiss was the second Farmington skier to cross the finish line. Treiss delivered a strong performance, finishing in 26:26 to earn a 21st-place finish overall in the loaded 56-skier field.
Dumont had her best performance of the season on Sunday, finishing in 42nd place as the Beavers' third scoring skier. She completed the race in 33:35.4.
McCrum also finished the race on Sunday but did not contribute to the team's scoring. She posted a time of 36:32.0 en route to a 47th-place finish.
