BOSTON, Massachusetts - University of Maine at Farmington men's track and field senior standout Nate Trussell (Berwick, Maine) was one of three Beavers to compete at the New England Championships today at THE Track in Boston, Massachusetts. Trussell earned All-Region honors after racing to an eighth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles.
Trussell was phenomenal in his qualifying heat, finishing in 8.31 seconds to earn a spot in the finals and clinch his status as an All-Region performer. He entered the finals ranked sixth but slipped to eighth with a finals time of 8.33 seconds. The race was extremely competitive, as the fourth-place finisher crossed the line just four hundredths of a second ahead of Trussell.
First-year Lucas Witkowski (Cromwell, Conn.) qualified for the New England Championships in the 600 meters. Witkowski performed well in the highly competitive event, posting a 15th-place finish with a time of 1:25.71. He was less than two seconds out of a top-eight finish and just 4.13 seconds out of first place.
Junior Alex Crews (Winslow, Maine) also performed well in the shot put. In a 24-athlete field, Crews placed 12th overall after his furthest attempt was measured at 13.99 meters. Needing to finish inside the top eight after the first three attempts to advance to the finals, Crews was just 0.34 meters shy of qualifying.
With Trussell placing eighth overall, he earned one point for the team, which tied for 29th at the event.
