Farmington Softball Places 4th in the NAC Preseason Poll

Written by; Jameson Bloch '26

WATERVILLE, Maine — The University of Maine at Farmington softball team has been selected to finish fourth in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) for the 2026 season, according to the preseason poll voted on by conference coaches and announced today. Husson University received all nine first-place votes.

The Beavers finished last season with a 16-18 overall record and a 4-4 mark in NAC play. They look to build on the momentum gained from their deep run in the NAC Tournament.

Farmington returns five starters from last season, while six starters from the 2025 roster will not return.

The top of the lineup will be headlined by senior third baseman Maddie Pike (Kennebunk, Maine) and junior utility player Jessica Dow (Saco, Maine). Pike recorded her 100th career hit last season and leads all returning players in runs batted in with 25. Dow is coming off a NAC East Division All-Conference selection and leads returning players in hits (33) and on-base percentage (.413).

Other key returners to the lineup include junior Melissa Mayo (Bridgton, Maine), senior Bella Miller (Lewiston, Maine), and senior Emily Collins (Moscow, Maine). Mayo leads all returning players in extra-base hits (9) and stolen bases (9). Miller is expected to handle the majority of the catching duties while also posing a threat on the basepaths after going 7-for-7 on stolen base attempts last season. Collins will be a key contributor in the outfield and consistently gets on base, posting a .407 on-base percentage last season.

Two key pitchers return to the circle from last season: Mayo and sophomore Lisa Truchin (Torrance, California). The duo combined for more than 100 innings pitched last year. Truchin posted a 4–2 record with a 4.35 earned run average, while Mayo made 11 starts for the Beavers and threw three complete games.

The Beavers will also look to incoming pitchers to make an impact this season, including junior Emma DeBoer (Saint Leonard, Maryland) and first-year Natalie Simpson (Bucksport, Maine).

Key Games

The season opens during the Beavers' spring break trip to Florida, with their first game scheduled for March 14 against Rutgers–Camden. Farmington begins conference play with a doubleheader against Lesley University on April 4. The home opener at Prescott Field will take place on April 11 when the Beavers host SUNY Delhi for a NAC doubleheader. The regular season will conclude with a home doubleheader against Thomas on May 2.
