LAKE PLACID, New York - University of Maine at Farmington senior alpine skiing standout Lance Dolan (Coplin Plantation, Maine) had arguably the best performance of his collegiate career on Wednesday, taking seventh place in Giant Slalom at the USCSA National Championship at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, New York. Dolan's strong performance helped lead the Beavers to a 13th-place finish as a team.
Dolan opened his day with a first-run time of 1:02.87, good for the fourth-fastest time of any skier on the course. Battling against soft, sticky snow, Dolan hung tough and finished his second run in 1:02.45 after the course was reset. Across his two runs, Dolan finished with a combined time of 2:05.32 en route to his seventh-place finish.
Fellow senior Lake Lindelof (Belfast, Maine) was the second-quickest Beaver on the course, finishing in 31st place with a total time of 2:15.13. Lindelof finished his first run in 1:09.26 before dropping significant time in his second run, finishing in 1:05.87.
With the sloppy course conditions, there were a total of 49 athletes who did not finish a run, with only 72 completing both runs. Senior Sam Roy (Frenchville, Maine), junior Declan Varnerin (Stow, Mass.), and first-year Magnus Riggs (Fletcher, Vt.) all received DNFs during their first run and did not factor into the scoring for Farmington.
Marin Vigneras of UMass topped the leaderboard, finishing with a time of 2:03.16 across his two runs to earn gold. As a team, Clarkson University was crowned the Giant Slalom National Champions after their top three finishers combined to finish in 6:16.21, just 1.39 seconds ahead of Rocky Mountain College, which placed second.
