LAKE PLACID, New York - The University of Maine at Farmington men's snowboarding team earned third place on Wednesday in the USCSA Snowboard Rail Jam National Championship. The Beavers were led by senior Ezra Mathieu (Lewiston, Maine), who placed second individually, earning the silver medal.
The rail jam event began on Monday with the qualifiers. Monday's field consisted of 39 athletes, which was then whittled down to the top 15 who qualified for the Finals that took place on Wednesday.
The Beavers had three snowboarders compete on Monday, with Mathieu, Tucker Boudreau (Gardiner, Maine), and Jackson Boudreau (Gardiner, Maine) all vying for a spot in Wednesday's final heat.
Tucker Boudreau and Mathieu each qualified for the Finals, while Jackson Boudreau was ranked 22nd after the qualifying round.
Competing in the Finals on Wednesday, Mathieu put together a dazzling run to earn second place overall. Boudreau finished 15th overall on Wednesday. The trio for the Beavers combined to score 39 points en route to their third-place finish.
Westminster University earned National Championship honors as a team, while Anthony Turco of Westminster earned the top overall spot, taking home the gold medal.
