Scola Grabs 23rd in Boardercross National Championship

LAKE PLACID, New York - University of Maine at Farmington first-year snowboarder Sophia Scola (Portland, Maine) earned 23rd place on Wednesday in the USCSA Boardercross National Championship at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, New York.

Wednesday's event served as the first National Championship event of Scola's young career. She held her own and finished her time trial run in 1:04.32 and was seeded 30th entering the 32-athlete bracket.

Moving into the bracket, score competed in against the number 3, 14, and 22nd seeds. Needing to finish in the top-two of her heat, Scola placed third, just narrowly getting beat out by Zoey Preston of UCLA and Nicole Yoos of Lee-McRae College.

As the only athlete from Farmington who competed in the event, she earned a 13th overall place for the institution.

Mollie Grange Isaacson of UCLA made her way through the bracket as the sixth overall seed, and earned the gold medal, placing first in the Big Final.
