LAKE PLACID, New York - The University of Maine at Farmington men's alpine team was unable to get past Northern Michigan University in the second round of the USCSA Dual Slalom National Championship on Saturday at Whiteface Mountain.
Farmington was seeded 12th entering Saturday following the combined placements of slalom and giant slalom, matching them up with the 21st-seeded Clermont Colleges. The Beavers wasted no time dispatching the Clermont Colleges with all four skiers—Lance Dolan (Coplin Plantation, Maine), Sam Roy (Frenchville, Maine), Magnus Riggs (Fletcher, Vt.), and Lake Lindelof (Belfast, Maine)—all winning their matchups.
After their win in round one, Farmington advanced into the second round to take on the five-seed, Northern Michigan University. The Beavers jumped out of the gates quickly as Dolan and Roy each won their race, needing just one more skier to complete the victory and move into the quarterfinals. Riggs and Lindelof were each narrowly beaten by the opposition, setting up the need for a fifth skier from each institution to break the tie. Junior Chase Raven (Hudson, Wisc.) served as the tiebreaker for the Beavers, and he was unable to pull out the win as Northern Michigan advanced into the quarterfinals.
Overall for the event, Rocky Mountain College took the top spot, earning first place by defeating Northern Michigan in the Finals.
