UMF Splits Final Day in Florida, Falls to Wis.-Eau Claire Before Bouncing Back Against St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn)

Written by; Aaron Goschke '25

DAVENPORT, Florida – The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team wrapped up its Florida trip with a split on Tuesday, dropping the opener to Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 10–2, before responding with a 13–3 win over St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) in the finale.

Game 1 – Wis.-Eau Claire 10, UMF 2

Wisconsin-Eau Claire broke a 2–2 tie late and pulled away with a two-run seventh inning before erupting for six runs in the eighth to claim the opener. UMF stayed within striking distance for much of the morning, but the Blugolds capitalized on late traffic and timely hits to create separation.

Will Buchholz (Maynard, Mass.) gave the Beavers a strong start on the mound, working six innings and allowing just two runs, one earned, on three hits while striking out two. Kaleb Hussey (Topsham, Maine) was charged with the loss after Eau Claire scored twice in the seventh, and the Blugolds added six more in the eighth. Ryan Clark (Kennebunk, Maine) recorded the final two outs in relief.

At the plate, Ike Wrigley (Farmington, Maine) paced UMF with a 3-for-5 effort and scored both Beaver runs. Brady Vincent (Auburn, Maine) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the third, and Tyler Rosa (Morgan Hill, CA) added an RBI in the fifth as Farmington drew even at 2–2. Jameson Bloch (Attleboro, Mass.) and Sam Markowitz (Boothbay, Maine) each added a hit, while the Beavers finished with six hits and four walks in the 10–2 loss.

Game 2 – UMF 13, St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 3

Farmington answered in a big way in the second game, scoring 13 runs on nine hits and pulling away late to earn a convincing win over St. Joseph's (Brooklyn). After falling behind 3–2 in the second inning, the Beavers responded quickly and never trailed again, capping the day with a six-run eighth inning.

Brady Vincent sparked the offense early with a two-run homer in the first inning, and UMF regained the lead in the third behind an RBI single from Hayden Durrell (Madrid, Maine) and a sacrifice fly from Jameson Bloch. The Beavers continued to add on throughout the afternoon, scoring in five different innings before breaking it open in the eighth.

Vincent turned in a huge offensive game, going 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI, and two runs scored. Wrigley was also outstanding, finishing 3-for-4 with a double, triple, four runs scored, and a stolen base. Tyler Rosa drove in two runs, while Matt Marquis (Monmouth, Maine) reached base repeatedly and scored four times.

Jameson Bloch went the distance on the mound, tossing all eight innings while allowing just three hits and three runs, none earned, with three strikeouts. After a rocky second inning, Bloch settled in and kept the Bears off the board the rest of the way to help the Beavers close their trip on a high note.
