FARMINGTON, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team will travel to New York City on Friday to face the No. 1-ranked team in the country, New York University, in the opening round of the 2026 NCAA Division III National Tournament, as announced during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday afternoon.
New York University earned the top seed in its pod and will also host a first-round matchup between Messiah University and SUNY Cortland. The first-round games will take place Friday evening, beginning with the Messiah–Cortland contest. Farmington and NYU will play in the second game of the night, with tip-off scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
New York University, a member of the United Athletic Association, finished the season with a 25-0 overall record and a 14-0 mark in conference play. NYU received the automatic qualifier after finishing as the top team in the conference during the regular season.
The Beavers return to the National Tournament for the first time since 2007. That year, they faced Brandeis University in the first round at Emmanuel College. Farmington fell to the Judges by a score of 90-66.
