Farmington Earns Day Two Sweep at Lesley

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts - The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team used the momentum from their game two win on Saturday to fuel a doubleheader sweep on Sunday in games three and four of the weekend set. The Beavers held on to win game one, 9-7, before an offensive explosion led to a 17-11 victory in game two.

The wins moved Farmington to 5-8 overall and 3-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action. The Lynx dropped to 7-8 overall and 4-4 in NAC play following the losses.

Game One; Farmington 9 - Lesley 7

After a scoreless first, the Beavers posted a crooked number in the second, scoring three runs on just one hit to take their first lead of the game. Tyler Rosa (Morgan Hill, Calif.) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and moved to third on a single from Hayden Durrell (Madrid, Maine). After a Colby Lewis (Blue Hill, Maine) walk loaded the bases, Sam Markowitz (Boothbay, Maine) lifted a sac fly to center to plate Rosa.

An Ike Wrigley (Farmington, Maine) walk reloaded the bases for Matt Marquis (Monmouth, Maine), who was hit by a pitch to bring in the Beavers' second run. The next batter, Jameson Bloch (Attleboro, Mass.), reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Lewis to score and make it 3-0.

Lesley got on the board in the bottom of the third when Gerlys Martinez drew a bases-loaded walk to score Nathan Young, who had reached on an error to open the inning.

Three straight singles from Young, Andres Moreno, and Logan Shudy with two outs in the fourth plated two runs, tying the game at three.

Farmington broke the game open in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs to take an 8-3 lead. Brady Vincent (Auburn, Maine) and Rosa each singled to open the inning, putting runners on first and second for Durrell. Durrell ripped a single down the left-field line to plate Vincent, making it 4-3 with no outs.

Lesley pitcher Payton Albin recorded a flyout and a fielder's choice for the first two outs. Paul Vachon (Brookline, N.H.) pinch hit for Markowitz and drew a walk to load the bases for Wrigley, who delivered in the clutch with a ground-rule double to score two and chase Albin from the game.

Marquis followed with a single to center, plating two more runs as Farmington extended its lead.

Lesley responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Martinez was hit by a pitch and later scored on an error, and Young delivered a two-run double to pull the Lynx within two.

Farmington added an important insurance run in the sixth, taking advantage of an error to make it 9-6.

A sac fly from Payne Johnson in the bottom of the seventh cut the lead to 9-7, but first-year pitcher Max Bryan (Walpole, Mass.) prevented further damage to earn the first save of his career.
