BRUNSWICK, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington women's cross country team raced to an eighth-place finish on Saturday at the Maine State Championships hosted by Bowdoin College. The top-five Beaver finishers scored 254 points and posted a combined time of 2:12:30, good for a 26:30 average over the 6K course.
The University of Maine topped the field with 19 points and a total time of 1:47:57 among its top-five finishers.
Beaver Runners:
The Beavers were once again led by senior and two-time North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Runner of the Week Lina Martinez Nocito (Mt. Vernon, Maine), who placed 44th individually. Martinez Nocito posted a time of 23:00.4, averaging 6:10.2 per mile for the race.
Two-time NAC Rookie of the Week and first-year Amelia Hill (Jaffrey, N.H.) was the second Beaver across the finish line. Hill finished the race with a time of 24:39.4, averaging 6:36.8 per mile en route to a 78th-place finish.
First-year Annabelle Hanscom (Sidney, Maine) placed 118th overall as the third Beaver to finish. Hanscom averaged 7:23.2 per mile and finished the 6K in 27:32.7.
Sophomore Heather Alexander (Orleans, Vt.) posted a time of 28:04.1 while averaging 7:31.7 per mile to earn 128th place individually.
First-year Tealah Ward made her debut for the Beavers on Saturday and was the fifth and final Beaver to contribute to the team's overall score. Ward finished in 29:14.1, averaging 7:50.4 per mile.
