FARMINGTON, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team jumped out to an early lead on Saturday afternoon, but Lesley University responded with four unanswered goals to defeat the Beavers, 4-1, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action.
The Records:
Farmington fell to 0-7-0 overall and 0-2-0 in NAC play following the loss. Lesley improved to 3-4-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play.
How it Happened:
The Beavers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, grabbing a 1-0 lead just 2:11 into the contest. Kyri Meak found the back of the net for her first goal of the season to give Farmington the early advantage.
Farmington continued to generate opportunities following Meak's goal. Rita Benoit and Meak each put shots on frame over the next several minutes, but Lesley goalkeeper Taylor Leiker kept the Beavers from adding to their lead.
Lesley responded in the 14th minute when Cameron Wedding scored her first of the afternoon, leveling the contest at one.
The Beavers continued to pressure the Lesley goal throughout the remainder of the opening half. Benoit registered a pair of shots on goal while Meak added another, but Leiker turned away each opportunity to send the teams into halftime tied, 1-1.
Lesley broke the tie at 51:05 when Wedding scored her second goal of the game off an assist from Leecy Cruz. Just 13 seconds later, Sasha Handyside found the back of the net to quickly extend the Lynx advantage to 3-1.
Farmington looked to cut into the deficit in the 66th minute when Sadie Pierce put a header on goal, but Leiker was there to make the save.
Wedding completed her hat trick in the 82nd minute, scoring her third goal of the afternoon to give Lesley the 4-1 advantage and close out the scoring.

The Goalkeepers:
Roo Sawyer made 11 saves in the loss for the Beavers. Leiker made six saves to earn the victory for the Lynx.
