Beavers and Bengals Battle to 2-2 Tie

FARMINGTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team battled University of Maine at Fort Kent to a 2-2 draw on Sunday afternoon at Leib Field.

Sunday's game served as senior day for the Beavers, providing them the opportunity to recognize their five seniors; Rita Benoit (Hallowell, Maine), Emma Dunn (Farmington, Maine), Peyton Gonya (Sabattus, Maine), Hannah Milliken (Greene, Maine), and Roo Sawyer (Londonderry, N.H.), for the lasting imprint they will leave on the program.

The Records:

Farmington now sits 0-7-1 overall while Fort Kent moved to 5-4-1 following the tie.

How it Happened:

The Beavers struck early when Dunn scored her first goal of the season just 39 seconds into the game off an assist from Milliken, giving Farmington a 1-0 advantage. Milliken sent a flat pass onto the sprinting Dunn who took a touch before lofting a shot over the head of Bengal goalkeeper Dreanna Thaw.

Fort Kent looked to answer throughout the remainder of the opening half, but Farmington Sawyer turned aside several scoring opportunities to preserve the Beavers' one-goal lead. Sawyer made six saves during the opening half.

Farmington carried its 1-0 advantage into halftime before Fort Kent turned their pressure up a notch during the early stages of the second half. Sawyer made three more saves during the opening 12 minutes of the half, helping the Beavers maintain their one-goal advantage.

The Beavers continued to hold the lead until the 76th minute when Tajay Stephenson found the back of the net to even the score at 1-1.

Fort Kent took its first lead of the afternoon in the 84th minute when Shylah Francis scored off an assist from Shaniah Johnson, putting the visitors ahead 2-1. Johnson sent a through ball into Shylah Francis who blasted a shot into the upper right corner of the net.

Farmington responded just under two minutes later when Benoit scored her second goal of the season. Benoit's penalty kick was saved by Fort Kent goalkeeper Dreanna Thaw but Benoit corralled the rebound and found the back of the net to pull the Beavers even at 2-2.

The Beavers and Bengals battled through the final minutes, but neither team could find the go-ahead goal as the two sides settled for the 2-2 draw.

The Goalkeepers:

Sawyer made 14 saves for the Beavers, including six saves in the first half and eight in the second half. Thaw made three saves for the Bengals.
