FARMINGTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team remained undefeated in the North Atlantic Conference with a 2-1 victory over Husson College at Prescott Field on Wednesday.

Both teams entered the contest unblemished in conference play with the Beavers improving to 10-3 overall and 8-0 in the NAC behind goals by Melissa St. Amand (Windsor, ME) and Amber Murphy (Manchester, NH) and three saves by netminder Kerry Kowalczyk (Topsham, ME). The Eagles dropped to 8-6-1 (6-1).

The scoring opened at 29:22 when UMF's Chelsea Norton (Westbrook, ME) was taken down inside the box and the Beavers were awarded a penalty kick. St. Amand drilled the PK into the bottom right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

The Eagles evened the match at 1-1 when Michelle Manning (Hampden, ME) controlled and pushed ahead a throughball with her upper body just past midfield and through a pair of defenders. Kowalczyk came out to make the initial stop, but Manning booted the rebound in at 40:38 for a deadlock at intermission.

The Beavers did not take long in regaining command of the scoreboard when Jackie Mrazik (Mount Vernon, ME) looped a pass into the goal box with Murphy getting a foot on it from five feet away to make it 2-1 at 46:05.

Husson pursued the equalizer throughout the second half with Megan LaJoie (Van Buren, ME) going high on a 1-on-1 and Kowalczyk making a sliding stop to beat Samantha Homer (Charlton, MA) with a defensive clear of the loose ball, but the Beavers held tight defensively and went on to the 2-1 win.

Tatyana Wolterbeek (Wells, ME) made four stops in the loss. UMF held a 12-9 advantage in shots and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.

The Beavers are scheduled to host the University of Maine at Fort Kent on Sunday.
