Women's soccer ties Castleton

Box Score

FARMINGTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team finished its North Atlantic Conference schedule undefeated with a 0-0 tie against Castleton State College on Sunday at Prescott Field.

The Beavers finished their season 13-3-1 overall and 9-0-1 in the NAC. Farmington is scheduled to host Bates on Wednesday. The Spartans (11-7-1, 6-1-1) await the conference quarterfinals, which are scheduled for Oct. 27.

Despite holding a 19-4 advantage in shots, the Beavers could not find the back of the net. The best opportunities for the hosts came in the second half with an Amber Murphy (Manchester, NH) lead across the goal mouth trickling off the foot of Jackie Mrazik (Mount Vernon, ME) and into the arms of Castleton goalkeeper Micole Bellimer (White River Junction, VT) five minutes into the frame. Murphy also made Bellimer make a sliding stop on a point-blank bid with three minutes left in regulation and sent a bullet into the netminder's stomach in the second overtime.

Kerry Kowalczyk (Topsham, ME) did not need to make a save in goal for the Beavers, who held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Bellimer finished with 14 saves for the Spartans.
