FARMINGTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team cruised to its first victory of the season with a 10-0 rout over Mitchell College at Prescott Field today.
Amber Murphy (Manchester, NH) punched in two goals and Ashley Tetreault (Spencer, MA) nailed a penalty kick as the Beavers built a 3-0 lead at intermission. Chelsea Norton (Westbrook, ME) notched two goals in the opening 11 minutes of the second half to seal the victory with Kasey McPhail (Benton, ME) recording a hat trick and Hannah Carleton (Strong, ME) adding two goals and an assist to lead a late charge in scoring.
Kerry Kowalczyk (Topsham, ME) and Ashley Holshouser (Berwick, ME) shared netminding duties for the Beavers and were not challenged as Mitchell did not fire a shot.
Colleen Seymour (Old Saybrook, CT) stopped 15 shots for Mitchell (1-5).
UMF is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday at the University of Southern Maine.
