Women's soccer blanked at Bates

LEWISTON -- After a scoreless first half, the University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team fell to Bates College 3-0 in non-conference women's soccr action today.

The Beavers (5-7-1) are scheduled to host Johnson State College Saturday at 1 p.m. in North Atlantic Conference action.

Weathering 24 shots in the opening frame, the Beavers stood scoreless with the Bobcats at intermission, but Bates did not take long to get on the board in the second half. Meredith Poore scored off a rebound at 47:58 for a 1-0 lead.

Kara Stefaniak scored at 75:17 off a pass by Sam Alper to increase the hosts' lead to 2-0 with Courtney Talcott capping the scoring at 82:02 for the 3-0 final.

McKell Barnes (Durham, Maine) stopped 12 shots for the Beavers, who were outshot 44-6 by the Bobcats.

Anabel Schmelz made three saves for Bates.
