Peake powers women's past Lyndon

Box Score

FARMINGTON -- Alida Peake (Penobscot, Maine) netted a pair of goals as the University of Maine at Farmington defeated Lyndon State College 2-0 in North Atlantic Conference women's soccer action today at Prescott Field.

The Beavers (7-7-1 overall) ran their record to 4-1 in the NAC with a trip to Thomas College Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. game. The Hornets (5-9-1, 1-5) are slated to host Johnson State College Thursday at 3:30 p.m.

Peake opened the scoring at 10:44 when she broke in alone on Lyndon keeper Samantha Smith (North Haverhill, N.H.) after Kayla Tuttle (Waterville, Maine) threaded the ball through the Hornet backfield. Peake slid her bid just past Smith to give Farmington a 1-0 lead.

Peake increased the lead just after intermission with a solid individual effort. The sophomore worked her way through several Lyndon defenders before scorching a right strike to increase the Beavers' advantage to 2-0 at 47:58. Peake was denied a hat trick when she rang the crossbar at 81:48

Following Peake's second score, the Beavers limited Lyndon to one Lynsey Hartshorn (Guildhall, Vt.) shot in the second half and none over the final 34 minutes en route to 2-0 NAC win over the Hornets.

McKell Barnes (Durham, Maine) stopped three shots in recording the shutout for Farmington. The Beavers took 24 shots, while Lyndon had six.

Smith finished with 13 saves for the Hornets.
