Women's soccer shut out by Bowdoin

Box Score

BRUNSWICK -- The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team was blanked 4-0 by Bowdoin College this afternoon at Pickard Field.

The Beavers (4-4-1) are scheduled to visit Colby College Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

Bowdoin's Ellery Gould scored a pair of goals to lead the Polar Bears (5-2-1) to their third straight win.

Gould's two goals give her seven on the season and push the junior to 27 for her career, moving her into sixth-place all-time on the Bowdoin career goal scoring list. She got the Polar Bears started on Sunday afternoon, receiving a perfectly-placed cross from Molly Duffy and heading it inside the right post for a 1-0 lead at 21:27. Bowdoin outshot Farmington 15-3 in the opening period, but the Beavers were able to stay close thanks to the netminding of McKell Barnes (Durham, Maine), who made seven first-half saves.

The flood gates opened in the second half, however, as continued Bowdoin pressure resulted in a pair of quick scores. Celeste Swain finished off a scramble in front, blasting home a rebound under the crossbar at 51:08. Minutes later, Gould took a feed from Caroline Logan on the left wing, split defenders and ripped a shot to the far post to make it 3-0 at 56:10. Lucy Morrell rounded out the scoring for the Polar Bears at 73:14.

Barnes finished with 11 saves for Farmington, while Kat Flaherty made two saves in 63:30 for Bowdoin. Gen Barlow played the final 26:30 for the Polar Bears, earning one save.
