Box Score FARMINGTON -- An Eric Taylor (Oakland, ME) layup with 10 seconds left in the game lifted the University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team to a 71-70 North Atlantic Conference victory over Thomas College tonight at Dearborn Gymnasium.
The Beavers (8-10 overall) ran their record to 8-1 in the NAC and are scheduled to host Maine Maritime Academy Saturday (women at 1 p.m., men to follow). The Terriers (13-5, 5-4) are scheduled to visit Husson University Saturday (women at 2 p.m., men to follow.
Eric Lelansky (Portland, ME) scored 17 points to lead the Beavers, while Josh Tanguay (Gorham, ME) notched a double-double with 12 points and 17 rebounds and Taylor finished with 14 points.
Andrew Duncanson (Portland, ME) led all scorers with 25 points with Francisco Alicea (Foxboro, MA) adding 15 points, Jarrad DeVaughn (Brockton, MA) 11 points and Darrell Alexander (Fairfield, TX) 10 points.
Taylor connected on a pair of free throws with 55 seconds left in the game to give the Beavers a 69-68 edge, but Thomas' Andrew Duncanson (Portland, ME) hit a jumper to put the Terriers in the lead at 70-69 with 44 second to play.
DJ Gerrish (Rumford,ME) dished to Taylor for a layup to give Farmington a 71-70 lead with 10 seconds to play. Duncanson's ensuing jumper missed and the Terriers could not get another shot off before the buzzer sounded as the Beavers held on for the 71-70 win.
Lelansky scored 13 points in the opening half, including, three 3-pointers as the Beavers took a 37-32 lead into intermission. Farmington outscored the Terriers 11-4 over the first 5:16 of the second half with a Kevin Leary (Manchester, ME) three giving the hosts a 48-36 command with 14:44 to play.
Duncanson powered a Thomas rally as the junior netted 17 points of his game-high total in the frame. Following Farmington's 12-point spread, the Terriers used a 15-5 stretch over 3:30 to trim the lead to 53-51. A Duncanson layup at 8:12 gave Thomas a 53-51 lead.
The advantage swung between the two teams with four ties before Taylor's game-winner gave Farmington a 71-70 win.
